Video sites change how they work all the time. From now on this site looks for its own updates and keeps the tool it reads videos with new by itself, so a link that stopped working is fixed sooner.
Private YouTube videos (the switch under the download box) are read more reliably too.
Downloading stays free without an account. A free account adds more: private videos, whole playlists, every resolution, no waiting and a history of your downloads, depending on what this site offers. The new page Free account shows it side by side: without an account and with one.
Members can now create their own API keys in the account and ask the site for download links from their own website, app or script. The Developers page describes every request and answer, with examples in cURL, PHP, JavaScript and Python.
YouTube sometimes turns a server away. When that happens the site now tries another route by itself, so your link still works. A download that has started goes on through the same route, and it can still be paused and continued.
YouTube changed how it hands out its files, and downloads here became slow or stopped after a moment. That is repaired: files now arrive at full speed, a download that broke off continues where it stopped, and a download manager such as IDM may fetch several parts at once. This also works for HD and 4K videos that are joined with their sound, in any audio language.
The standard design was redrawn: a clearer link box, bigger download buttons and a tidier list of sites. The installed app now opens with a clean loading screen that shows only the logo.
